A unique device for the rehabilitation of people with movement disorders appeared in the Republican Hospital named after PP Zhemchuev in the city of Elista, Republic of Kalmykia. This was announced on January 27 by the official Telegram channel of the Resbolnitsa08 hospital.
The new LokomatPro rehabilitation complex is the only robotic exoskeleton in the world. He has four degrees of freedom of movement in each leg -ankle, knee and two planes of the hip joint- appeared at the Elista hospital.
The device combines functional locomotor therapy with motivational training and objective assessment of the patient’s condition through advanced feedback and virtual reality tools.
The device is designed to help in the recovery of patients with motor disorders as a result of neurological diseases: the consequences of traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, neurological diseases, strokes.
The hardware complex trains the patient as if it were a form of game. The patient controls the errors that he makes when moving and learns to move correctly. In this way, patients learn to walk at the pace set by the instructor, which is especially useful for visually impaired patients, and the musical accompaniment can signal the patient about the correctness of the movements.
“The complex reproduces a natural gait, activates the sensorimotor networks of the brain responsible for movement. One procedure lasts an hour.– Nyudlya Davaeva, head of the department of medical rehabilitation for patients with the central nervous system, spoke about the features of the device.
However, doctors also warn about the contraindications of the device.
