G7 countries promise to “bring to justice those responsible for Navalny’s death” and continue to impose sanctions against Russia

The G7 countries promised this Saturday to “bring to justice those responsible for Navalny’s death” and continue to impose sanctions against Russia.

In a joint statement cited by EFE, the leaders of Italy, Germany, Great Britain, the United States, Japan, Germany and Canada said they would “continue to support Ukraine’s right to self-defense” and reaffirmed “their commitment to the long-term security of Ukraine, in particular through the conclusion and implementation of bilateral security commitments and agreements”, based on the Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine, approved in Vilnius last July.

The countries are calling on Russia to release “all unjustly detained prisoners” and clarify the circumstances of Navalny’s death. “We will hold those responsible for Navalny’s death accountable, including by continuing to introduce restrictive measures. measures in response to human rights violations in Russia and take other actions.”

The position of the G7, a group of seven of the world’s most industrialized democracies, was contained in the final declaration issued after a meeting via video conference chaired from Kyiv by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
