During an unannounced visit to Odessa for security reasons, German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock was forced to protect herself from an air attack for about a quarter of an hour, writes the German newspaper Zeit on February 25.
During her visit to Odessa, Annalena Berbock, accompanied by journalists, faced an unexpected challenge: an air raid signal, which forced her to temporarily interrupt her planned activities. “It was a moment when time seemed to have stopped, but the will to act in such conditions is something we must value and respect.”“”, one of the journalists who accompanied the minister commented on the situation. Together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba, the minister managed to visit the port of the city, where she was briefed on the state of security in the Black Sea. The events unfolded against the backdrop of an airstrike warning in the Odessa region, which, according to the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, lasted only 18 minutes.
It is worth noting that Annalena Burbock’s trip to Odessa was part of a series of unannounced visits by senior European officials to Ukraine. The German newspaper Zeit points out that these visits are an important sign of solidarity and support.
