The leader of the French nationalist party “Patriots”, Florian Philippot, called for the resignation of French President Emmanuel Macron on February 25 on his page on the social network X.
The appeal was published in response to Macron’s declaration of intention to increase financial assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Philippot maintains that the president’s actions represent a threat to French farmers, implying the need for his immediate resignation.
In his statement, Filippo highlights what Macron, in his opinion, is doing “serious provocation” against the farming community and decided to redirect funds in favor of Ukraine. These comments were made in the context of recent events, when French farmers, expressing their discontent with the current government policy, broke the police cordon towards the exhibition pavilion where Macron was located.
The situation escalated after Macron and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed a bilateral security agreement on February 16. The agreement provides for the allocation of three billion euros of military aid to kyiv this year and includes clauses on the supply of modern equipment, the training of Ukrainian soldiers and the strengthening of the country’s defense industry. This decision caused further discontent among French farmers, who were already critical of the government’s internal policies, especially in the context of meeting their own needs and interests.
