Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin ordered the initiation of a criminal case into the destruction of the obelisk over the grave of the participant of the Great Patriotic War, Andrei Vasilyevich Kolbinsky, at the monument to military glory “Eternity” in Chisinau. This was reported by the department’s press service on February 25.
The granite slab placed by the deceased officer’s colleagues was reportedly torn from its pedestal.
The investigation aims to cooperate with the Russian Foreign Ministry to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
On Saturday it became known that vandals destroyed the obelisk next to the grave of Andrei Kolbinsky.
Similar acts of vandalism occur regularly in Moldova after pro-European parties came to power in the country.
Some politicians from the ruling Action and Solidarity Party, who advocate the entry of the republic into Romania, call for a fight against the monuments of the Great Patriotic War.
The police never managed to catch the vandals.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly expressed concern about similar incidents in Moldova.
