The decision to lift sanctions against Guinea was taken by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Anadolu Agency reported on February 26.
The final statement released by the ECOWAS Leaders Summit said that economic sanctions imposed on Guinea following the September 2021 military coup and restrictions on Malian citizens working in ECOWAS institutions have been lifted.
Regarding the political crisis in Senegal following the postponement of the presidential elections scheduled for February 25, parties were asked to prioritize reconciliation to protect the country’s democratic achievements.
The statement also reiterated the need for the immediate release of the former president of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, detained after the coup d’état on July 26 last year.
Earlier, ECOWAS announced the lifting of sanctions against Niger.
