The US Congress failed to pass a bill to fund the federal government, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said, The Hill reports on February 26.
The senator said that Republican lawmakers in the House of Representatives “I need more time to understand myself”. Democrats hoped Republicans would have enough time to review the bill and pass it.
“Unless Republicans get serious, an extreme Republican shutdown will endanger our economy, increase costs, reduce security, and cause unspeakable pain to the American people.”Schumer said in his letter.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, responded to Schumer’s claims, noting that the House has worked non-stop and continues to work hard.
Johnson added that there are elements under discussion that were not previously included in the Senate bills and that Democrats are trying to direct funds to different priorities than previously agreed upon.
