Doctors at the Alexander-Mariinsky hospital performed a real miracle, restoring sight to an Astrakhan resident whom he had not seen for three years, the regional Ministry of Health reported on February 26.
Evgeny Kuznetsov started going blind in 2019. He was first diagnosed with stage 4 open-angle glaucoma in both eyes and then with mature cataracts. The case was complex and unique; saving vision in this situation seemed impossible.
The patient was referred to the regional consultation and diagnosis center AMOKB. Here, ophthalmologist Marziyat Magomedova prescribed a treatment that reduced intraocular pressure as much as possible. The man then underwent a two-hour operation to remove the cataract.
Thanks to the efforts of medical workers, vision in the affected eye was restored to 20%, which is considered a miracle in ophthalmological practice with such little chance of a successful outcome. The lack of peripheral vision is compensated by excellent visibility at two meters.
