A 52-year-old man was arrested by the PNP for illegal possession of a firearm stolen from a home in Amarante.
The arrest of the 52-year-old man in the municipality of Tabuaçu, in the northern district of Viseu, followed a three-week investigation into aggravated menacing.
According to a statement from the Viseu PNP territorial command, the military carried out two search warrants, one at home and one on agricultural land, and weapons without registration or any documentation were found and confiscated.
Officers from the Criminal Investigation Center (CIC) of Moimenta da Beira, also located in Viseu district, seized a hunting rifle, five bullet cartridges and 14 cartridges containing various types of lead.
GNR also reported that after investigation, the military determined that the aforementioned firearms were obtained from a robbery of a residential building that occurred in the city of Amarante (Porto district) about five years ago, and the owner of which had already died.
Thus, “the accused is also charged with the crime of receiving,” since, as a source in the People’s Republic of Poland told the Lusa agency, “the detainee will not be the author of the theft, but acquired it illegally.”
The facts discovered during the operation, in which soldiers from the Tabuaçu territorial post participated, were submitted to the Judicial Court of Moimento da Beira, where the person detained was to be heard.
