“Now that all allies have approved it, Sweden will become NATO’s 32nd ally. Sweden’s integration will make us all stronger and safer,” stressed Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General.
The Parliament of Hungary ratified this Monday as planned Sweden’s entry into NATOafter the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbánannounced last Friday that the necessary decisions would be taken to confirm this accession after sealing a security trade agreement, after having delayed the decision for 19 months. “I welcome the vote of the Hungarian Parliament to ratify Sweden’s membership in the NATO”, celebrated the Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, through a message on his X account.
“Now that all allies have approved it, Sweden will become NATO’s 32nd ally. Sweden’s integration will make us all stronger and safer,” he stressed.
The vote in the Hungarian Parliament has ended favorably with the only negative votes from the six representatives of the Our Homeland Movementaccording to the newspaper ‘Magyar Hirlap’.
With this approval, Sweden thus overcomes its last obstacle to entering NATO, after the Türkiye’s first reluctancewhich accused the Nordics of harboring Kurdish groups considered terrorists by Ankara, and Hungary, which did not sit well with Swedish criticism of its democratic system.
