The state demands that the SEF inspectors convicted for the death of Igor pay the family of the deceased 713 thousand euros

The Portuguese state demands that three former inspectors of the Service for Foreigners and Borders (SEF), convicted for the death of Igor Gomenyuk, pay 713 thousand euros, which were transferred to the family of a Ukrainian citizen, reports News Diary (DN).

Luis Silva, one of the three former agents charged, believes that “the Portuguese state may have had many interests at heart, but it is obviously not the interests of taxpayers,” he was quoted as saying. DN.

Luis’s charge is that he challenges the state’s intention to implement the “right of return.” DN. At the same time, the state intends to return to the agents the amount paid to the family.

In addition to Luis, Duarte Laja and Bruno Souza were also convicted for Igor’s death in March 2020. Each will have to pay, according to the state’s request, 237,650 euros.

At the time of his death, the Ukrainian was in the custody of the SEF police.

Luis, Duarte and Bruno are serving nine years in prison in Évora for crimes against qualified physical integrity and aggravated results. Three, according to DNthe compensation is said to exceed “fair and equitable value in similar situations under the uniform jurisprudence of the superior courts.”

The defendants also claim that the Ombudsman determined compensation for property damage in the amount of 314,950 euros solely on the basis of information provided by the widow, without the production of any documents. Former agents still doubt the income of the Ukrainian couple.

In their defense, they also criticize the establishment of amounts of moral damage and suffering for Igor after his death.
