German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz refuses to supply Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. This was stated on February 26 at a conference of editors-in-chief of the German Press Agency, writes the magazine Focus Online.
Scholz said in Berlin that he did not want a situation to arise in which German expertise was used directly to seize Russian targets.
In addition, he stressed that there will be no German soldiers on Ukrainian soil.
“We should not associate ourselves at any point or place with the objectives that this system achieves.”Scholz said.
“This clarity is also necessary. “I’m surprised that some people don’t worry at all, don’t even think about whether what we’re doing could, in some sense, lead to participation in war.”noted the Chancellor.
He explained that these are very long-range weapons.
“And what the British and the French are doing in terms of goal management and related goal management cannot be done in Germany. “Everyone who has dealt with this system knows this.”Scholz added.
Scholz also said that he “It is very annoying that there is no balance between what is really needed now and the debate about this system”.
Scholz believes that Ukraine does not have enough ammunition. But, in his opinion, “This question on the part of Germany is not decisive”.
The German federal government fears that Ukraine could use its powerful weapons system to attack targets inside Russia.
Ukraine has been suffering for weeks from a slowdown in Western arms supplies. The main problem is ammunition, of which the Ukrainians are gradually running out. However, they are also experiencing serious shortages of other weapons systems.
