On February 26, Senegalese President Macky Salle proposed a bill on a general amnesty before the elections, TASS reports.
At the opening ceremony of the national dialogue to agree on the date of the presidential elections in the country, Maki Sal, in particular, stated: “In the interest of national reconciliation, I will present a general amnesty bill to Parliament.”.
According to the president of Senegal, on February 28, after discussing the bill in the country’s Council of Ministers, it will be presented to parliament.
It should be noted that last week more than 300 opposition activists who participated in political protests in 2021-2024 were released from Senegalese prisons. It is clarified that the opponents were released under police supervision and could be arrested again.
Let us remember that on February 6, more than 150 people who were participating in protests against the postponement of the presidential elections from February 25 to December 15, 2024 were arrested in Senegal.
