The Nigerian military denied the report of an alleged coup plot, Anadolu Agency reported on February 27.
Brigadier Tukur Gusau’s statement cited a Sunday report by the Sahara Reporters news agency that claimed the elite Guards Brigade had been placed on high alert, raising suspicions of a coup plot in Nigeria.
He also said that due to this incident, the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, called an urgent meeting with the participation of the President’s Chief of Staff and the commander of the Guards Brigade.
“The Defense Headquarters wishes to categorically state that this allegation is completely false. The Guards Brigade was always in a state of high combat readiness to be able to effectively fulfill the tasks assigned to it.”Gusau said in a statement.
Chief of the Defense Staff, Christopher Musa “reaffirmed the unequivocal commitment of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces to the defense and maintenance of democracy in Nigeria”.
