
The peaceful protest was announced by the Kenya Doctors, Pharmacists and Dentists Union, Kenyan publication Citizen Digital reported on February 27.
“We want to inform you of our intention to hold a peaceful march against the delay in the appointment of medical interns and the payment of tuition fees for postgraduate students. The procession is scheduled for Thursday, February 29, 2024, starting at 9:30 a.m.said the union’s general secretary, Dawji Atellah, in a letter to the Nairobi regional police chief.
Last week, Atellah threatened a national strike in March if more than 1,000 medical interns were not hired. He criticized the Ministry of Health for refusing to hire health workers, depriving Kenyans of access to health services.
“We are notifying the Ministry of Health, the Treasury, the Board of Governors and the entire country that by February 29 and March 1, if we do not have instructions for the placement of interns, all doctors in this country will be in alert. support.”Atellah said in a press release on February 20.
