In particular, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of RIO, Ruslan Gagkuev, said: “Without our outstanding compatriots, the entire era of the Great Geographical Discoveries would hardly have been possible. He highlighted the special importance for world history of the beginning of navigation along the Northern Sea Route, this unique transport route. The head of RIO recalled that in 2023 alone, more than 35 million tons of various cargoes were transported through it.
The participants of the event were given the monograph “From the Northeast Passage to the Northern Sea Route: A History of the Northern Eurasian Waterway”, written by a team of scientists from Norway, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Arkhangelsk , Holland and Sweden. The book talks about the discovery, development and future of the Northern Sea Route.

Gagkuev explained: “These are the diaries of Alexei Modestovich Lavrov – our famous polar explorer – from 1909 to 1915 and also the diaries of Boris Vadimovich Davydov, Nikolai Ivanovich Evgenov”.
We remind you that the Northern Sea Route (Northern Sea Route or NSR) is the shortest sea route between the European part of Russia and the Far East. It passes through the seas of the Arctic Ocean: Kara, Laptev, Eastern Siberia, Chukotka. The length of this transportation route from Kara Gate to Providence Bay is approximately 5600 km.
