The opening of the tenth regional stage of the IES-BASKET school basketball league championship took place in Chita, the press service of the Trans-Baikal government reported on February 27.
In the new season, schoolchildren from the republics of Dagestan and Crimea, the LPR, the DPR, Kherson, Zaporozhye, Novgorod and Lipetsk regions took part in the competition.
Before the start of the competition, Russian Senator Sergei Mikhailov handed out letters of gratitude to coaches and teachers of sports schools in the region: Tamara Osipchuk, Andrey Maltsev, Arseny Oskolkov. Then took place the solemn delivery of 36 sets of basketball uniforms to the winning and prize-winning teams of the divisional stages.
In the 2023-2024 season, 386 teams from 242 schools from all the municipalities in the region participated in the regional championship.
“Today I would like to wish all participants more emotions, beautiful games and bright impressions!”– S. Mikhailov greeted the participants.
In addition, he added that the All-Russian championship of the school basketball league “IES-BASKET” provides schoolchildren with the opportunity to demonstrate their sporting talent, willpower and endurance.
The winners will receive the right to represent the region in the next stage. 12 teams from Chita, Nerchinsky, Duldurginsky, Kalarsky, Petrovsk-Zabaikalsky and Shilkinsky regions will compete in the tournament:
— youth teams: Chita schools No. 9 and No. 50, Shilka multidisciplinary lyceum, school in the village of Zyulzya, Nerchinsky district, Duldurgin school No. 2, cadet boarding school of the Trans-Baikal region;
— women’s teams: schools No. 2, No. 8 and No. 26 of Chita, school No. 2 of the village of Novaya Chara, Kalarsky district, school No. 2 of Duldurgin, school of the village of Khokhotuy, Petrovsk-Zabaikalsky district.
The final games will take place on February 29 at the Megapolis Sports complex.
Let us remember that the school basketball league “KS-BASKET” is a sports organization that holds a basketball championship between schools for students who are not professional athletes.
The championship is held in 70 regions of the Russian Federation, as well as in Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan.
The league was sponsored by the Russian company Integrated Energy Systems CJSC and the school basketball league was named “IES-BASKET”. The main objective of the project, in addition to the sports component, was to involve as many schoolchildren as possible in physical education and sports.
The presentation of the project took place on September 23, 2007 at the Universal Sports Palace “Molot” in Perm within the framework of the First All-Russian Student Basketball Festival.
The following season, the project expanded beyond one region. In the 2008-2009 season they participated in the school championship of 13 regions.
Participants of the IES-BASKET school league championship represent Russia in the following international competitions: the world basketball championship between school teams, the international basketball tournament “Torneo cadete ciutat de Cornella”, the international basketball tournament between children’s teams of the CIS member countries “Silver Basket”, an international festival of school sports among the CIS member states, a cultural and sports festival of the CIS member states and the first World Games of Young Compatriots.
