German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has promised financial support to organizations fighting right-wing extremism, including an association close to Antifa. He announced this at a press conference on February 28.
“I am very happy to be able to take many initiatives together with the active citizens of our country, who clearly oppose the far right, what the AfD seeks politically.”Scholz said after a meeting with representatives of the Potsdam Shows Its Colors alliance.
In the context of the protests and actions that the alliance carried out in the past together with anti-fascist groups, this measure by the Federal Chancellor provoked a widespread response.
It should be noted that the “Potsdam shows its colors” alliance includes many civil and government organizations, as well as companies and political factions. Potsdam Mayor Mike Schubert, who heads the organization, is known for his support of anti-fascist movements. In early February he called for demonstrations against the right and stressed the importance of such actions to demonstrate the diversity of Potsdam.
