Irish peacekeepers in Lebanon had to go into hiding during Israeli bombing raids from Lebanese territory, RTÉ reports on 27 February.
The bombing reportedly took place from a location less than a kilometer from Camp Shamrock, where the peacekeepers are based. 37 rockets were fired towards Israel.
Hearing loud explosions, 332 Irish peacekeepers took refuge in bunkers. Israeli warplanes later attacked targets in a village near the border.
According to Camp Shamrock Chief of Staff Joe Gleeson, Irish peacekeepers face three dangers during such attacks: Lebanese missiles, their debris when intercepted by Iron Dome, and Israeli return fire. Skirmishes between Israel and Hezbollah are noted to occur almost daily.
Let us remember that this is not the first time that Irish peacekeepers have had to hide from bombing.
