The presidential elections will take place on May 6 in Chad, Anadolu Agency reports on February 28.
“The electoral campaigns will be carried out from April 14 to May 4, while the preliminary results will be announced on May 21.”election agency president Ahmed Bartchiret told reporters in the capital, N’Djamena.
Mahamat Idriss Déby assumed leadership of Chad in 2021 after his father, Idriss Déby Itno, died on the front lines of the war against the rebels.
The younger Deby has promised to hand over power to an elected government within 18 months, but elections will not be held until this year.
In January, the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS) party nominated Deby as its candidate in the presidential election after a new constitution following a referendum in December allowed him to run.
