Rubens Barrichello, a former Formula 1 driver, reacted emotionally on social media to the death of his dog Speedy, who could not survive after eating 11 cigarette butts.
“My Speedy, you left too soon, my friend. I can only thank you for the joy of our journey together. I will love you forever,” the Brazilian wrote.
The winner of the 11th Grand Prix pointed his finger at people who throw cigarettes on the ground.
“One day my son went to Speedy’s and saw that there were a lot of cigarette butts. The dog had tears in his stomach and developed a disease that prevented his body from producing a very important protein. He couldn’t eat anymore. There was blood, diarrhea and everything got worse,” explained the 51-year-old pilot.
The third-most-competed Formula One Grand Prix driver has advised owners of other dogs to be more responsible when smoking and throwing cigarettes on the ground.
“We collected the dog feces in a bag and threw it in the garbage. It would be good practice for anyone who smokes to have the same attitude. “I love dogs and I don’t say anything bad about anyone.”
