The Portuguese man was detained when Spanish authorities intercepted the sailboat he was traveling on with 200 kilograms of cocaine about 500 miles west of the Canary Islands.
The drugs, towed by a police boat, will arrive this Wednesday at the port of Vigo. The vessel, about eleven meters long and flying the Venezuelan flag, sank due to poor condition, the ship said. La Voz de Galicia.

The operation was coordinated by the intelligence services of the Franks National Customs Directorate (DNRED) and the US DEA, together with the Information Center on Terrorism and Organized Crime (CITCO) and the Maritime Atlantic Drug Trafficking Analysis Center (MAOC).
The only crew member was a Portuguese who was detained. Authorities have not established a connection between the seized drugs and drug trafficking networks existing in Galicia.
