The widow of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko this Wednesday called on Western countries not to recognize the results of the Russian presidential election in response to the death of opponent Alexei Navalny.
“I think the only reaction to what happened to Alexei Navalny, to any Russian opponent and to everyone who is still in prison is: do not recognize these elections. Do not name Vladimir Putin as the new elected president,” she said Marina Litvinenko in her statement. London, at a press conference organized by the Foreign Press Association.
For Marina Litvinenko, not recognizing Putin as Russia’s president “would be the strongest signal for Russia, for the Russian people,” calling him only “Mr. Vladimir Putin or Mister Vladimir Putin.”
