A free trade zone “Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan” will be created on the border of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in the Shovot district of the Khorezm region of Uzbekistan, according to a presidential decree published on February 28 in the regulatory framework documents.
According to the resolution, only those products that will be produced exclusively in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan will be sold in the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan free trade zone.
It is expected that the free trade zone will create the necessary infrastructure to store, classify, market and transport goods. At the same time, businessmen will be able to rent buildings and structures in this area through an online auction, according to the resolution.
A “Single Window” center will also be opened, where entrepreneurs will be able to provide services for processing customs, tax, certification, phytosanitary, veterinary and transportation requirements. It is also reported that banking points, currency exchange points, hotels and medical posts will operate in the free zone. In addition, other infrastructure will be created.
According to the decree, foreigners and stateless persons who are on the territory of Uzbekistan will be able to enter the free trade zone through a separate checkpoint. In the commercial area itself, movement is free.
Let us remember that Uzbekistan is actively building free trade zones. Thus, in early 2023 such an area was built and opened in Termez, on the border of Uzbekistan with Afghanistan. That same year, construction of the Central Asian industrial complex on the border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will begin.
