According to the publication, investigators found 82 people who, according to the documents, participated in development work by order of the Ministry of Defense, but in reality did not participate in them. The heads of two departments and several professors are suspected of embezzling 8,444,444 rubles received by non-existent employees between 2021 and 2023.
Four defendants in the case were reportedly placed under house arrest and admitted their guilt. The witnesses confirmed his testimony. A case of large-scale fraud was opened (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Investigators are looking for new episodes of theft of funds.
The court prohibited the defendants from using the Internet and any means of communication other than the telephone to communicate with lawyers or investigators. They were also prohibited from commenting on the case in the media.
Academy director Major General Anatoly Nestechuk, when asked by journalists to comment on the situation, said he knew nothing about the thefts. According to him, at the university “everything is fine.”
