Last year, GNR carried out 3,187 initial bushfire suppression missions using helicopter teams and 118 search and rescue missions, according to a report released this Friday on the occasion of International Civil Protection Day.
According to GNR’s 2023 report, the corporation’s emergency protection and assistance division also completed 18 hazardous materials missions, 26 aquatic and underwater inspection missions and 186 remotely piloted aircraft systems missions.
During the initial response to the bushfires, the same unit carried out 484 ground interventions.
Still within the civil protection umbrella, GNR participated in three international missions in 2023: one to search and rescue after an earthquake in Turkey and two to fight forest fires in Chile and Canada.
The GNR Emergency Protection and Assistance Unit operates in particular in the event of earthquakes, fires, floods, serious accidents and search and rescue operations.
In March, the unit will hold several educational campaigns in the country with the population on the topic of civil protection, “warning about self-defense and risk reduction measures.”
