Members of the Freedom Caucus of the US House of Representatives called on Senator Mitch McConnell to immediately resign as leader of the Republicans in the US Senate, the faction’s press service reported on February 28 on the social network .
“Our thoughts are with our Democratic colleagues in the Senate regarding the resignation of their co-majority leader, Mitch McConnell (D-Ukraine). “We don’t have to wait until November…Senate Republicans must immediately elect a Republican minority leader.”says the message.
The Liberty faction considers McConnell a representative of a single elite party in the United States and therefore called him a Democrat, representing the interests in the Senate, not the interests of any state or resident of the United States, but those of Ukraine. They don’t consider him a Republican.
Let us remember that on February 28, McConnell announced his resignation from office after November 2024, that is, after the elections. But his earlier resignation is important to Trump supporters as the party’s Senate leader distributes money to Republican Senate candidates.
In the 2022 midterm elections, Trump-backed candidates did not receive a dime from him, which Trump supporters believe cost the party between three and five US Senate seats that it lost. Trump supporters, to whom the Freedom faction belongs, reasonably believe that the funding situation could repeat itself this year.
