Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexey Chekunkov spoke about how Vladivostok can be turned into a city with a population of more than a million people, AiF-Primorye reported on March 1.
He noted that this would require the merger of four municipalities and a ten-year wait.
Chekunkov said that this agglomeration will include Vladivostok, Artem, Nadezhdinsky district and Bolshoi Kamen, which, in principle, form one agglomeration.
The minister recalled plans to expand the capital of the Far Eastern Federal District by creating a satellite city in the Nadezhdinsky district. The construction of said city will begin in 2024.
In his words, the new city will be built primarily for the residents of Vladivostok, and secondly, for those who dream of an apartment on the Pacific Ocean. And, in his opinion, there are many in Russia, because Vladivostok is the heart of Asia, from where you can very quickly reach the main Asian capitals, including Beijing.
Chekunkov noted that in the Far East there should be a city of more than a million inhabitants, which will become “a real magnet for tourists”.
