Scientists from the Perm Polytechnic University have created a program that instantly recognizes traffic signs, the university’s press service reported on March 1.
“PNRPU scientists have created their own algorithm for recognizing traffic signs using modern computer vision and machine learning methods based on freely distributed software”the developers said.
According to them, the program takes up only 0.1 MB of memory. The developers implemented the software in Python using the OpenCV, Yolo, and PyTorch libraries.
The device with the program is installed in the car. It recognizes a traffic sign at a distance of 25 meters and alerts the driver using a voice assistant or a projection on the windshield.
According to the developers, equipping vehicles with this program will significantly reduce the risk of accidents. The program is currently in testing.
