The funeral of former USSR Prime Minister Nikolai Ryzhkov was held in Moscow, the Telegram channel “Moscow Speaks” reports on March 1.
Ryzhkov died on February 28 at the age of 95. He was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery.
The politician’s farewell took place on March 1 at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Ryzhkov came to say goodbye to the Chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, the First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, Alexander Zhukov, the head of the United Russia faction in the State Duma, Vladimir Vasiliev, and Yabloko founder Grigory Yavlinsky.
Previously, Nikolai Ryzhkov headed the Soviet government from 1985 to 1991. In 2003-2023 he was a senator from the Belgorod region.
Recall that, according to the press secretary of the Head of State, Dmitry Peskov, President Vladimir Putin treated Ryzhkov with great respect and “I have always paid tribute to the great role this statesman played in the modern history of our state.”
