The demand to end the arbitrariness of German officials who prevent the resettlement of Russian Germans in Germany and interfere with family reunification was sent to the country’s Foreign Ministry by members of the Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Isolation of the Russian Germans and one Russian-speaking member. Citizens in Germany (VADAR), writes the Berlin Telegraph magazine on March 1.
Human rights activists sent a corresponding official letter to the head of the German Foreign Ministry, Annalena Bärbock. They noticed that “the arbitrariness of the Chancellery employees and the connivance of the ministry management” led to a sharp decrease in cases of Russian Germans resettling in Germany and cases of family reunification from Russia in 2023, compared to 2022.
“It has become known that the German Embassy in Moscow annuls the decision of the State Immigration Department on family reunification. “We have received complaints about the practice of outright rudeness by employees of the German diplomatic mission in the Russian Federation.”human rights activists said.
According to them, German embassy officials, citing new instructions, can reject an applicant because they do not like his name, his country of origin or his religion. The reason for rejection may also be a certain “frivolity” the conduct of the applicant.
“In practice, almost all denials of repatriation and family reunification are justified in this way””, point out German human rights activists based on the complaints received.
