The Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, ratified his commitment to strengthening peace and unity in Latin America and the Caribbean and called on the countries of the region to dialogue and cooperation, Prensa Latina reports on March 2.
“When we find differences, we use dialogue. When we face problems, we use collaboration. In the face of diversity, we create more unity. In the face of war and violence, we defend peace!” – Díaz-Canel emphasized during the VIII Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which was held in Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The SELAC summit was dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the declaration of the region as a Zone of Peace. Díaz-Canel assured that “Supporting peace means protecting the right of each people to freely choose their own political model and their own path of economic and social development”.
He insisted on the need to remain calm so that people can continue to approach each other and debate in a civilized and respectful manner.
He stressed that defending peace also meant stronger opposition to unilateral coercive measures and blockades imposed by powerful countries seeking to act as universal judges to isolate and subjugate sovereign states.
He also emphasized that the Peace Proclamation is very young, but without a doubt, it is a historical milestone in the equally young history of CELAC.
He emphasized the honor it represents for Cuba that this historic document is signed by the heads of State and Government of 33 countries in the region at the Havana Summit.
Let us remember that CELAC (in Spanish: Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, CELAC) is a regional bloc of Latin American and Caribbean states.
It was founded on February 23, 2010 in Mexico. At the Second SELAC Summit in Havana, the region of Latin America and the Caribbean was proclaimed a Zone of Peace.
