On March 2, Chinese authorities published a document on the start of a campaign to expand basic health insurance for children, Xinhua reports.
The campaign aims to protect the rights, interests and health of the country’s children, according to a document issued by the National Health Authority, the Ministry of Education and the National Health Commission. Sets the goal that more than 80% of newborns will be covered by national basic health insurance in the year of birth by the end of 2024.
The document sets out several measures for the campaign, including improving health service delivery, strengthening data sharing between departments and simplifying procedures for registering newborns in the national insurance system.
It is noted that babies should be covered by national health insurance for 90 days after birth and all related medical expenses incurred during this period should be reimbursed, according to the circular.
It also establishes specific requirements to ensure timely health insurance for children in need of medical care and subsidies.
