This Sunday, negotiations to agree on a truce in Gaza resume in Cairo, before the beginning of the month of Ramadan. A Hamas delegation is already in Egypt.
Negotiations to agree on a truce in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas will resume this Sunday in Cairo with the participation of “all parties,” according to Egyptian state television Al Qahera News.
Reuters confirms that a Hamas delegation, led by deputy Khalil Al-Hayya, has already arrived in Cairo. The agency reports, however, citing another source close to the negotiation, that no Israeli delegation will sit at the table until it has the complete list of live hostages.
The agencies assure, citing sources close to Egyptian Intelligence, that Egypt is making great efforts to agree on a cessation of hostilities before the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which is scheduled to begin between March 10 and 11, according to the Moon’s calendar. “There is notable progress in the truce negotiations and we will strive to reach a fair agreement,” the source told Al Qahera News, without providing further details.
If this meeting finally takes place, it will take place after a night in which Israel has launched a new wave of bombings on western Khan Younis to facilitate the advance of its forces. As the Army has made known on its X social network account, its fighter jets have attacked “around 50 Hamas targets” in a space of “six minutes.” The subsequent ground assault continues this morning.
According to the latest update from the Palestinian authorities, 30,410 people have been killed in Gaza since October 7 and 71,700 have been injured. The death toll from the Israeli attack on Saturday against the tents of displaced people and a concentration of people near the main door of the Emirates Children’s and Maternity Hospital in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, has risen to 14.
