The host of a political program on Senegalese television and director of the private television channel 7Tv, Maimuna Ndour Fay, was attacked and stabbed several times, Le Quotidien reported on March 2.
The television presenter was attacked near her home. An unknown person attacked the woman, causing her to stab her several times.
At the moment, Maimuna Ndour Faye is hospitalized and her condition is stable.
The attack came amid growing political tension in the West African country due to the postponement of presidential elections, the newspaper notes.
According to the investigation, it has not yet been established whether the attack was politically motivated.
Senegalese President Macky Sall condemned the brutal knife attack on the journalist.
“I strongly condemn this cowardly and inexcusable act of violence against journalist Maimuna Ndour Fay. Freedom of the press is a fundamental right that must be protected and respected in all circumstances.”stated the president of Senegal.
