The initiative to accuse Peruvian President Dina Boluarte for her trips abroad was rejected by the Congress of the Republic. This was reported by the press service of the Peruvian legislature on March 1.
“With 69 votes against, the plenary session of Congress did not recognize the initiative that proposes the impeachment of the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte.”– he said in Congress.
According to the Peruvian constitution, the head of state must hand over the position to one of his two vice presidents upon leaving Peruvian territory, but Boluarte does not have vice presidents because he took office after the overthrow of Pedro Castillo in 2022.
In this sense, in June 2023, parliament approved a controversial bill that would allow Boluarte to govern the country remotely if he leaves Peru. Thus, in 2023, Boluarte made several visits abroad.
“This does not comply with the constitutional framework”said Congressman Flavio Cruz. In his opinion, when Boluarte went to Brazil, what happened? “resignation from office”.
However, there was no debate in the plenary session and it was decided to rule out impeachment again. Last August, another appeal was filed to remove Boluarte precisely because he considered that his trips had been counted. “unconstitutional”.
