Former BE leader Katarina Martins this Sunday asked “the left to rock the boat” in a multi-message speech for the PS and warned that in many constituencies “either choose the Bloc or don’t choose the left”.
Catarina Martins took part in BE’s official campaign for the first time alongside her successor in the Bloc leadership, Mariana Mortagua, at the party’s biggest rally to date in the race, which brings together key Bloc figures in Lisbon this afternoon. .
The former bloc coordinator reacted to Prime Minister António Costa’s speech yesterday and the idea he defended that the game was interrupted before the end, hinting at the fall of the government in the middle of the legislature.
“Who didn’t know a year ago that accelerated degradation had occurred (…) The game began to end at the moment when there was an absolute majority,” he criticized.
Using the expression also of António Costa, but without naming him, Katarina Martins pointed out to the PS when she took refuge in the idea that “the right will do worse” if they are in power, and left the question: “that’s not much, is it?” “
For the former bloc leader in this election, “sameness” is not enough and “the strength of the left is needed to rock the boat.”
“This absurd speech declaring that everything is fine is the speech that withers democracy. So many statements, so few answers,” he criticized, hinting at the PS.
Given that a “left majority” is needed and that it only exists “with a strong left in parliament”, Katarina Martins left a warning about what is happening “across the country”.
“Either choose Blok, or the right, or choose BU, or don’t choose the left. This happens in many districts of the country. The voice that serves is the voice that elects, and the voice that elects is the Left Bloc,” he emphasized.
Before Catarina Martins on the scene there was Pedro Filipe Soares, who decided to leave parliament and the parliamentary leadership at the end of this legislative session, appealing to a million undecided people who, according to polls, still do not know who to vote for.
In the “election menu” the blocker pointed to a “parade of horrors” on the right with Cavaco Silva, Durau Barroso, Luis Filipe Menezes or Passos Coelho – names that deserved long screams from the audience.
“Equality is passing here whether they like it or not, and they will have to take it with them,” he warned.
According to Pedro Filipe Soares, “the country is dissatisfied with the PS, the left is dissatisfied with the PS” after the absolute majority, and for the bloc it is “a very simple question.”
“Why not?” he asked, citing examples of problems with health, housing or low wages.
The blocker referred to those who, on election night 2022, regretted their useful vote, thus leaving the proposal.
“If you want to go backwards, vote for the right, if you want more, vote for the PS, if you want to move forward, vote for the Bloc,” he urged.
