Nigeria’s complete transition to green energy by 2050 will require spending 5.2 trillion naira ($3.3 billion), Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) Director-General Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi said on the 3rd. March, Daily Trust reported.
Abdullahi was speaking at a briefing on clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency in Nigeria in Abuja.
According to him, the Nigerian Energy Commission is developing plans and policies to attract investments in renewable energy generation.
“No country depends entirely on its own resources to build renewable energy plants; They create favorable conditions for the influx of investors. “As a commission, we are developing policies that will attract investment in renewable energy production.”he said.
Abdullahi said the Federal Capital Development Authority had allocated 900 hectares of land to the commission.
“We call it Abuja Technology Village; “We intend to turn it into a technology city, where investors will come and build several solar power plants and factories for the production of renewable energy.”said the head of the Commission.
The CEO said promoting energy efficiency practices and introducing sustainable energy sources are critical to the campaign to combat climate change.
