Nearly 300 members of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) have been trained to begin administering simple notarial acts through police stations free of charge to the public, the government said.
“This new facility will now be available to every Mozambican citizen,” says the Mozambican government’s 2023 balance sheet document, completed in the last few days and which Lusa accessed this Monday.
“Progress has been made in the implementation of the decree, which makes simple notarial acts free of charge for the population through police departments, and 296 members of the PDM have been trained for this purpose throughout the country,” he noted.
Following a Mozambican government decision that came into force in August, police stations and lawyers with professional licenses can now certify notarial acts, as a way of ensuring that notarial acts are simplified.
In police departments, it has become possible to require officers to “simplely recognize signatures on applications” and “certify the authenticity of photocopies of identification documents.”
For lawyers with a professional license, it is now possible to deal with judicial powers of attorney, powers of simple administration of movable and immovable property, minutes of meetings of associations, foundations and commercial companies, debt obligations and lease agreements.
In FRM police departments, such recognition can only be carried out by a junior officer with at least five years of experience, performing secretarial duties, duly authorized by the unit commander and only after undergoing “special training” in the field of office management and a Notary.
