There is no representative from Israel in the round of talks in protest of Hamas’s refusal to provide a list of the hostages who are still alive.
The talks to try to reach a truce in the Gaza Strip and a exchange of hostages for prisoners in Israeli prisons continue this Monday in Cairo among the delegations of Hamas, Taste, Egypt and USAreported official media.
They assure that Egypt is making “great efforts” to achieve the agreement before the month of Ramadanwhich is expected to begin next March 10 or 11.
They also affirm that “progress” has been made in the talks to achieve a “fair agreement”, but without giving more details about this progress.
Sources close to the conversations informed EFE on condition of anonymity that the delegation of Hamas has refused to announce the names of the hostages who are still alive in Gaza since not all captives are in the hands of the Islamist group.
According to the informants, there are an unknown number of hostages held by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and other factions in Gaza, and Hamas does not know their whereabouts because “communications between the resistance factions are cut off due to the current Israeli offensive ” on the fringe.
Precisely in this new round of talks in the Egyptian capital that began yesterday, Sunday, there is no representative of Israel in protest of Hamas’s refusal to provide a list of the hostages who are still alive (around 130), according to official sources cited by Israeli media.
In this situation, Egypt has sent an invitation to the YIP to go to Cairo and solve this important obstacle to achieve progress in the negotiations.
Throughout this year, Cairo has hosted up to three meetings between the parties, the first being on January 24, which brought together all the delegations included in the talks, including Israel.
