An armed action with the use of heavy weapons took place in the Libyan city of Zawiya, the Libyan channel The Libya Observer reported on March 2.
The clashes reportedly began after a member of an armed group affiliated with the Awlad Saqr tribe, one of the largest tribes in Zawiya, shot two people associated with the so-called Al-Zawiya First Support Forces. As a result of the shelling, one member of the First Al-Zawiya Support Forces died on the spot and the second died in hospital.
The armed clashes caused the closure of the coastal highway in the city area.
According to The Libya Observer, the attack is linked to unsolved murders in Zawiya that occurred in 2022.
Let us remember that on December 25, 2022, in the Libyan city of Zawiya, unknown assailants shot at a car in which a family was. As a result of the attack, Salem Abdulmoal and his wife Sarah Grimida died instantly and their injured children were taken to hospital.
We also remember that on May 25, 2023, the Interim Government of National Unity of Libya launched a military operation against gangs in the city of Zawiya and its surroundings. The city of Zawiya and its surroundings were attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles and aircraft.
