The German Interior Ministry believes it is “impossible” to make concrete forecasts about the number of refugees expected in the country in the future, the news service of the ARD Tagesschau television channel reported on March 4.
According to WDR and NDR television, the federal government is considering the possibility of completely eliminating this obligation. At the same time, German states are demanding to be provided with forecasts on the number of asylum seekers arriving in Germany.
If the state premiers meet with the German chancellor this week, the meeting will also discuss the best way to organize the reception of new asylum seekers. However, it is expected that the German federal government will not be able to provide a forecast on the number of migrants arriving in the country in the near future.
WDR and NDR report that the federal government is considering removing the legal obligation that requires the federal government to provide the Länder with monthly data on the expected number of immigrants.
It is assumed that such a preliminary analysis will allow the Länder to better prepare to receive refugees. However, the Federal Ministry of the Interior has not offered such forecasts for some time.
