The date of the start of a new strike after the failure of negotiations on a wage increase was announced by the president of the German union of train drivers (GDL), Klaus Weselski, writes on March 4 in the magazine Wirtschaftswoche.
The rail freight strike will begin at 6:00 p.m. on the afternoon of March 6, and at 2:00 a.m. the next day, passenger train drivers will join the protest. This strike will last 35 hours.
Wezelski said that after this action more unannounced strikes, so-called wave strikes, will take place.
“This means that GDL no longer wants to inform the railways and therefore the passengers about a strike 48 hours before its start.”notes the publication.
Recall that on February 29, the GDL union announced the failure of regular wage negotiations with the German railway operator Deutsche Bahn.
It should be noted that the failure of the negotiations was criticized by the German passenger association Pro Bahn. They hope that meeting drivers’ demands will lead to increased ticket prices.
They require arbitration to set new rates. “Passengers are not parties to the collective agreement, but they are the ones who suffer the most from this conflict”the association said.
