Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant met this Monday with the head of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), General Michael Kurilla, in Tel Aviv to discuss “Iranian aggression” against the country from third parties.
“I have had important discussions with the Commander of US CENTCOM regarding regional issues arising from Iranian aggression. [o Irão apoia o Hamas]. We emphasized the importance of Israeli and American forces working together to ensure stability and security in the region,” the Israeli minister said in a statement.
The Israeli minister thanked the American general for his “leadership and commitment” in “maintaining a strong bond between the two armies and the military institutions of both countries.”
“We fight to protect our freedom and our shared values,” Gallant said.
Kurilla also met with the head of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Herzi Halevi, with whom he exchanged views on security issues both inside and outside Israel, as well as with Mossad chief David Barnea and other senior Israeli officials. This was reported by The Times of Israel on Monday.
On February 27, the CENTCOM commander visited the Rafah checkpoint near the border with Egypt, where he met with representatives of several non-governmental organizations, senior Egyptian army officers and representatives of the US Embassy, with whom he discussed the process of delivering humanitarian aid from Egypt to the Gaza Strip.
“The challenges, opportunities and level of support from the international community in increasing aid delivery to Gaza were described,” he said at the time.
The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, backed by Iran, was sparked by the Palestinian Islamist group’s unprecedented attack on Israeli soil on October 7, which Israeli authorities said killed about 1,200 people and took nearly 2,500 hostage. .
In response, Israel launched an offensive in the Palestinian territory that has already killed more than 30,000 people, according to Hamas, classified by the EU and US as a terrorist organization that has controlled the territory since 2007.
