President of the Bulgarian People’s Assembly Rosen Zhelyazkov is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, Bulgarian National Radio reports on March 4.
In Baku he will meet with President Ilham Aliyev, as well as the speaker of the country’s parliament, Sahiba Gafarova.
Speaker of the People’s Assembly Rosen Zhelyazkov will speak with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who announced last year that his country plans to double natural gas supplies to Europe by 2027. During Aliyev’s visit to Bulgaria last year , a memorandum was signed on the Solidarity Ring initiative, which aims to improve the security of natural gas supply to the European Union.
The office of the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR was also officially opened in Sofia, as a sign of deepening energy cooperation between the two countries.
The visit of the President of the People’s Assembly is a continuation of the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan in the energy sector. The Bulgarian parliamentary delegation headed by President Rosen Zhelyazkov is in Baku at the invitation of Milli Majlis Speaker Sahiba Gafarova, who visited Bulgaria in September last year. They will hold face-to-face talks, after which representatives of the two parliaments will hold plenary talks and discuss issues of mutual interest.
During the official visit, the Bulgarian delegation will honor the memory of national hero Heydar Aliyev in the Alley of Honor and lay a wreath in the Alley of Martyrs.
