The overwhelming majority of Russian citizens surveyed intend to participate in the upcoming presidential elections, the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) reported on March 4 on its official website.
According to the survey data, 70% of 1,600 people will surely participate in the vote. 10% answered the corresponding question with less confidence, but would still prefer to participate than ignore the elections.
It is clarified that the survey was carried out from March 2 to 3 via telephone and among Russian citizens over 18 years of age. A similar survey was conducted on February 15. Then, the proportion of those who are definitely going to participate in the vote was 7% lower, and the proportion of those who doubt it was 4% higher.
It is also noted that the level of knowledge of Russian citizens about the upcoming presidential elections is 89%. Of those, each respondent was able to correctly name the month, time of year, and year of the election.
It is also reported that the candidates’ ratings are virtually unchanged compared to the February survey. Thus, 75% are willing to vote for the current head of state, Vladimir Putin, which is only 4% less than the same figure in the last survey.
As for the evaluations of the other candidates, according to the March survey, 6% of those surveyed are willing to vote for Vladislav Davankov, representative of the New Town party, 2% more than in February. 4% are ready to vote for Nikolai Kharitonov of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, 3% are ready to vote for the leader of the LDPR Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), which is 1% more than the February result.
Let us remember that the presidential elections in the Russian Federation will be held on March 15, 16 and 17. According to the Central Election Commission, at the beginning of the year the number of citizens with the right to vote was 112.309 million people. This figure also includes citizens of four new constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The number of voters outside Russia is 1.89 million people. In the city of Baikonur, 11,924 people can participate in the vote.
It was also reported that in future elections a mechanism that will allow voting remotely will be used for the first time. This opportunity can be used by citizens of 29 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
