Eight Climáximo activists were detained after they painted boarding pass readers at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport red, making it difficult for passengers to pass through.
This Monday also saw the display of a banner reading “New Airport: Climate Collapse” and the airport’s concourse being painted.
The activists intend with this action to “condemn the plans to build a new airport in Lisbon, expand it and/or move it to another location as an act of war. They note that there will be a discussion about how to reduce aviation.” to the necessary minimum in a fair way, this is the only plan compatible with stopping climate collapse.”, can be read in the statement.
According to the collective, four activists were charged with causing qualified damage, the rest were released and charged on suspicion of complicity in crimes.
