The position of commander of the support forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) was taken by Alexander Yakovets, as reported on March 4 on the website of Vladimir Zelensky’s office.
According to Zelensky’s decree, Dmitry Gerega was removed from the position of commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which he had held since August 2021. The reasons for the dismissal were not specified. The following decree appoints Alexander Yakovets to the mentioned position in place of Gerega.
Previously, Brigadier General Alexander Yakovets headed the engineering troops commanding the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It should be noted that the support forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine include electronic warfare (EW) units, engineering troops, radiological, chemical and biological defense troops, military topographic service, hydrometeorological service and canine service.
Recall that on February 11, Ukrainian drone specialist Sergei Beskrestnov spoke on Ukrainian television and said that Russian troops are using new drones on the front that are capable of bypassing Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.
