Nearly 2.5 tons of fruits, vegetables and cheeses were delivered to the remote village of Lavrentiya on Burlak wheeled all-terrain vehicles, the Chukotka news agency reported on March 5.
“We sent 2,435 kg of products from the Chukotka region, of which 2,142 kg were vegetables and fruits and 293 kg of cheese. TREKOL will then ship the goods to the towns of Uelen and Inchoun. 1,200 kg of food will be sent there, 600 kg for each location. The villages also receive eggs, which are produced at a Lawrence poultry farm: 35 boxes will go to Uelen and 20 to Inchoun. The remaining products will remain in Lavrentiya and Lorino.”– said the administration of the Chukotka region.
The next grocery delivery is scheduled for March 6. Perishable products will be delivered to Lavrentiya and then distributed to Enurmino and Neshkan stores.
The Bering Strait company reported that products are delivered to Chukotka by air via Moscow and Khabarovsk, after which the cargo is formed at the distribution center for shipment to remote villages in the Chukotka tundra.
Let us remember that delivery in the North is a set of measures and financial mechanisms for the regular and uninterrupted supply of basic and vital goods to the territories belonging to the regions of the Far North, as well as their equivalent areas. The delivery of goods to the northern delivery territory is associated with a number of restrictions in difficult weather conditions. Delivery of goods is carried out by air, river and sea transport, including along the Northern Sea Route.
First of all, food and fuel are supplied to the Arctic zone, where more than three million people live. The interruption of supplies from the north to any populated area automatically raises the question of evacuation of its population.
