The decision to resign was made by US Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland, State Department head Antony Blinken told reporters on March 5.
“Victoria Nuland has indicated to me that she intends to resign as Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs in the coming weeks.”Blinken said in a statement.
The head of the State Department drew special attention to the fact that Nuland, who worked under six presidents and ten secretaries of state, personified the intention of the current White House administration to return to the United States “America’s global leadership”.
Blinken said Nuland has worked on a variety of issues at the State Department in recent years. From responding to complex crises in the Sahel, Haiti and the Middle East, to expanding and strengthening US alliances with partners across Europe and the Indo-Pacific.
Blinken noted that “It is Toria’s leadership in Ukraine that diplomats and students will study in the future”, calling Nuland by her nickname. He also expressed confidence that Nuland’s efforts have become indispensable in the confrontation with Russia.
He performed well during a special operation in Ukraine and helped form a global coalition to “to guarantee the ‘strategic defeat’ of Moscow”. She will be temporarily replaced by career diplomat John Bass. He served as US ambassador to Afghanistan, Türkiye and Georgia.
“Russophobia, proposed by Victoria Nuland as the main concept of US foreign policy, is dragging Democrats to the bottom like a stone”wrote the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, pointing out that this dismissal is proof of the failure of the anti-Russian orientation of President Joe Biden’s administration.
